Psychiatry is a clinical discipline with long-standing traditions in clinical assessment, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy. Our human brain is the most important organ, but the least accessible. Our specialist in psychiatry builds on this clinical foundation and applies the latest technology to assess brain function and assist in establishing a diagnosis (e.g., ADHD, dementia). We aim to integrate medical technology with conventional clinical assessment to help children, adults and the elderly with various mental health issues. Our clinic emphasizes the combination of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. The functional infrared brain scan measures oxygen levels in the brain when performing a mental task. The oxygen level can help to identify whether an individual is in a disease range (e.g., ADHD) or a healthy range. This waveform also shows how the frontal and temporal lobes function during a mental task and reflects real-life difficulties.
The fNIRS device used in this clinic has been listed with the Hong Kong Department of Health under the Medical Device Administrative Control System.
